Change In Creek Day Date for 2010

March 12th, 2010 by arnienjude

Since its inception 7 years ago, the annual cleanup of the Markham and Auburn wildlife refuges has always been held in mid-April, at the same time as Roseville’s and the other surrounding communities. However, there has been less and less trash to pickup as the years have gone by and residents have been maintaining the areas. Therefore, the Lincoln Open Space Committee has voted to begin efforts at restoration and rehabilitation, rather than just limiting the Volunteer Day to just cleanup. Since Fall is a better time for tree planting, Creek Day this year will be moved to October to coincide with Make A Difference Day. This will follow the Lincoln Save the Salmon/Calling Back the Salmon Celebration sponsored by S.A.R.S.A.S. (Save Auburn Ravine Salmon and Steelhead). In addition to the cleanup, we will be planting trees, doing wildflower and grass seeding, removing invasive non-native plants and replacing them with native plants, and doing what we can to preserve and enhance our wildlife refuges. All residents are welcome to join the Lincoln Open Space Committee at their meetings (second Wednesday of each month) as we plan for this expanded undertaking in Making a Difference in our community.

    Thanks
